Shri Bishwajit Kumar Singh, IFS (JK:1989) took over the charge of Commissioner, NVS in the forenoon of 7th Sept., 2015. Prior to his joining in NVS as Commissioner he held the post of Director in Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of India, New Delhi. He possesses Post Graduate Degree i.e. Masters of Science (Forestry) from Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Dehradun and got Masters in Public Policy and Management with specialization in Econometrics and Environmental Economics from Institute of Social Science, The Hague, Netherland. During his services in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change he served in various capacities in Administration, Service matters, Financial matters, Forestry issues etc

As Commissioner NVS, he introduced transparent and effective procedure for regular transfer/posting and recruitment. He is the pioneer of digital revolution in NVS, in terms of implementing e-office in HQrs. office; digitizing the records; effecting Annual Transfer Drive through online portal; online registration of students for Jawahar Navodaya Selection Test & Lateral Entry Test and also ensured computer based test for recruitment of staff. Thus, eliminated human interference in the process to prevent irregularities/favoritism/nepotism/corruption. He expedited the promotional avenues of staff and officers in terms of notifying revised recruitment rules and ensuring conduct of DPCs at regular intervals. He has the credit of initializing the process of recruitment of around 6000 teaching and non-teaching staffs.

He is very keen for holistic development of the JNV students, their safety, security & comforts in the campus of JNVs and dedicates his energy towards this achievement. He is fond of reading and more interested in teaching and guiding the staff and students.
