Sh. Prakash Javadekar
President, National Open School Society, Hon'ble Minister of
Human Resource Development
Sh. Prakash Javadekar was born on 30th January 1951. He is the
President of the National Open School (NOS) Society and the Union
Minister of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD),
Government of India. Previously, he held the portfolio of Union
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Environment, Forests and
Climate Change. He was also a Minister of State for Parliamentary
Affairs, and briefly held the portfolio of Information and
Broadcasting. Mr. Javadekar was also an official spokesperson of
the BJP before becoming a minister of the Narendra Modi
He was elected to the Rajya Sabha as a Member of Parliament from
Maharashtra in 2008, and re-elected from Madhya Pradesh in 2014.
Following the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2014
General Election, he was appointed Minister of State (Independent
Charge) for Environment, Forests and Climate Change by Hon'ble
Prime Minister Sh Narendra Modi.
Between May and November 2014, he was also Minister of State for
Information and Broadcasting. After taking charge of his ministry,
Sh. Javadekar notably said that "the media itself suffices for
self-regulation. Institutions are important for the functioning of
democracy and priorities would be worked out after due consultation
with the stakeholders".
Active in politics since his college days, Sh. Javadekar was a
member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student
wing of the Rashtriya Svayamsevak Sangh (RSS). During the Emergency
between 1975-77, Sh. Javadekar participated in student movements
against the government. During this period, he led a Satyagraha
movement in Pune.
He led the Indian delegation to the 2015 United Nations Climate
Change Conference. He worked with the Bank of Maharashtra for 10
years from 1971- 1981. He also worked in Rural Development Dept
Sick Unit Cell, Employment Promotion Programme of the Bank. He has
a Bachelor's degree from the University of Pune.
Among the many achievements, he has to his credit is the Sir
Purshottam Das Thakur Memorial National Award, for research Paper
on Rural Development and Banks role in Co-ordinated Approach. He
also led a delegation to Boston to Negotiate Media Lab Asia Project
Sh. Javedkar, has many books published to his credit like -(i)
Bekaricha Jwalamukhi (Problem of Unemployment), 1986, (ii)
Nanenidhiche Karz (IMF Loan), 1987, (iii) Shetkanyanchi Karzmukti
(Farm Loan Waiver), 1988 and (iv) Mahagaicha Bhasmasoor (Problem of
Inflation), 1999 and 2010; he has written about 300 articles in
various newspapers on contemporary subjects and has also written
many booklets on unemployment, infiltration, IMF loan and other
